Mr. Jagat Singh Chauhan was founder/father of handball, netball, and Throwball in India. His efforts in Germany during the 1972 Munich Olympics helped make these games a legacy in India.
Throwball is a non-contact ball sport played across a net between two teams of nine players on a rectangular court. It is popular in Asia, especially on the Indian subcontinent, and was first played in India as a women’s sport in Chennai during the 1940s. volleyball, the game’s roots are linked with the YMCA.
The Playing Court size of the ball shall be measured when inflated between 70 cms to 72 cms in circumference, and The height of the net is 2.2 meters. the ball weight should be 400 grams to 450 grams.
Throwball shall be played between two teams, each consisting of twelve players, seven of whom can be active on the pitch at any one time. The remaining five players are substitutes. Throwball uses rally scoring in which points can only be scored when serving.
A player can jump when throwing the ball or while serving. The service ball or the rally ball should not touch the poles. If it touches, then it is considered a foul. During the play or rally, players cannot cross the net or obstruct the opponent team.
While in volleyball the ball is hit or volleyed throughout the play, in throwball the ball is thrown over the net, where a member of the other team tries to catch the ball and quickly throw it back across the net. An official game is played between two teams of nine players. A team can take two time- outs of 30 seconds each during a set. The first team to score 25 points wins a set. A match is three sets.
