Let’s dig in deep. Solar Electric systems aka On-grid or grid-connected PV system is an electricity generating solar PV system that is connected to the utility grid. A grid-connected PV system consists of solar panels, one or several inverters, and grid connection equipment. They range from small residential and commercial rooftop systems to large utility-scale solar power stations.
On-grid solar systems are advantageous as the electricity is utilized by the owner during the day and any surplus is supplied to the grid; some utilities pay for this surplus electricity at a reasonable rate known as a Feed-In Tariff (FIT). During the evenings, when the solar system is not generating electricity, it is drawn from the grid avoiding the need for costly battery banks.
Whenever the sun shines (and even in overcast weather), the solar cells generate electricity. The On-grid inverter converts the DC electricity produced by the solar panels, which can then be used by the property/household/industries/commercial establishment.
If a grid connects system is producing more electricity than is being consumed, the surplus is fed into the mains power grid. When the solar cells are not producing power, for example at night, power is supplied by the mains power grid as usual. As all of the components in a grid connect system has no moving parts, you can expect a long and hassle-free life from your solar power system. The capacity of the On-Grid solar power system starts from 1 KW onwards, depends on the daily use of the building.
